SJC Overturns AG’s Certification of Common Core Ballot Question

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court issued a ruling today in favor of the ten plaintiffs who appealed the Attorney General’s certification of the ballot measure that would repeal the common core education standards in Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education applauds the SJC decision, which confirms the question does not meet legal requirements to appear on the ballot in November.

MBAE Board Chairman William Walczak, a plaintiff in the case, said “The current standards focus on the skills and knowledge students need for success after high school. Superintendents, principals, teachers and parents support these standards and tell us they are working for students.”

“The SJC decision will not only save teachers and students from unnecessary upheaval, but also means cities and town will not incur the significant costs that the ballot proposal would have created,” Walczak added.
