March 2, 2017Biz Groups Take Action
May 26, 2017April 24, 2017 – The Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education (MBAE) and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce announced today that the Greater Boston Chamber has joined the growing list of business groups who have become MBAE Affiliates.
“Our members share the interests and concerns of employers across the state in creating and cultivating a highly skilled workforce,” said James E. Rooney, president & CEO of the Greater Boston Chamber. “By affiliating with MBAE we are formalizing a partnership with a respected organization that will enable business to speak with one voice on the very important education priorities and goals we share.”
The Greater Boston Chamber joins the MBAE Affiliate network that also includes Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce, Springfield Business Leaders for Education, New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce, Concord Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Development Council of Western Mass., Newton Needham Regional Chamber, Mass Technology Leadership Council, Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce, Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce, and TechNet.
“An excellent education system is the bedrock of a world class workforce,” said MBAE Executive Director Linda Noonan. “We have work to do to ensure that every student has access to an excellent education. Business can be much more effective in achieving that goal if we work together and speak with one voice.”
A statewide employer survey conducted by MassINC Polling Group and commissioned by MBAE, AIM, and the Massachusetts Business Roundtable found that 75% of Massachusetts employers are having trouble hiring workers with the right skills for open positions. Employers also reported serious deficiencies in new hires. MBAE is working with its Affiliates to ensure that state policy and legislation addresses these issues and moves the state forward rather than backward.
