Legislation filed by Rep. Chynah Tyler and Sen. John Cronin takes aim at our growing workforce and equity challenges, taking urgently-needed action to bolster student learning and improve economic opportunity. An Act to Create and Expand Student Pathways to Success (HD.1568/SD.2172) includes many of the priorities of the Student Pathways to Success coalition, a cross-sector partnership of organizations committed to educational equity that represent students, parents, educators, and employers.
The legislation would expand student access to Early College, early-career Innovation Pathways, STEM Tech Career Academies, and dedicated career counseling; grow the number of high-quality vocational education opportunities and ensure that greater numbers of students can access them; create new incentives for high schools to offer students the opportunity to earn in-demand industry-recognized credentials; and, establish the Workforce Skills Cabinet as the main working group tasked with overseeing/coordinating the equitable growth of pathways programs across the Commonwealth.
