March 1, 2018Statement by the Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education on the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education Vote to Recommend Jeff Riley for Commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education
January 29, 2018 – The Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education (MBAE) congratulates Jeff Riley, current Receiver of the Lawrence Public Schools, on his selection as the next Massachusetts Commissioner of K-12 education by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Riley has an outstanding record of achievement in Lawrence and an unwavering commitment to closing achievement gaps and providing all children an excellent education. His experience turning around failing schools, recruiting a diverse workforce, and engaging families and students in decisions about what is best for student learning will have a significant impact on meeting the needs of all students in schools across the Commonwealth.
Massachusetts employers are anxious to close the skills gaps that leave so many jobs unfilled and too many students on the economic sidelines. We look forward to working with Commissioner Riley to ensure all students have the opportunities to gain the skills and knowledge they need to fully participate in our global economy and society.
