January 12, 2022The ranks of MBAE’s corporate members continue to grow and we are pleased to welcome Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as our newest Premium member.
For over a decade, innovative teams of passionate scientists from multiple disciplines at Bristol Myers Squibb have been at the forefront of the scientific collective in Massachusetts and have a single vision: Transforming patients’ lives through science.
As a leading employer in the Bay State, BMS seeks to empower current and future scientists by encouraging collaboration within and outside their walls, offering support and mentorship to those in local communities and pursuing novel opportunities within cancer resistance, immunology, translational science, cell therapy and biologics.
Today, Bristol Myers Squibb is growing and thriving in Massachusetts. The company has three state-of-the-art facilities here: two R&D research centers in Cambridge and a biologics development and manufacturing site with a growing footprint in cell therapy manufacturing in Devens. At all of their sites, BMS is committed to attracting, developing and retaining a talented and broadly diverse workforce by offering meaningful careers, opportunities for growth and an inclusive culture in which colleagues feel valued, supported and heard.
In every community where they have a presence, Bristol Myers Squibb is dedicated to helping middle school, high school, and college students explore their interests in science and technology. For many years BMS has worked to be a driving force for the advancement of STEM outreach programs and workforce development initiatives that have opened doors in life sciences for people from underrepresented communities.
It was these efforts that led to Bristol Myers Squibb being honored in October at MassBioEd’s 20th Anniversary celebration as their Champion for Biotechnology Education. In accepting the award from Governor Charlie Baker, Emma Lees, Senior Vice President Oncology Discovery Biology, and Head of the Mechanisms of Cancer Resistance Thematic Research Center, said BMS was committed to supporting current and future scientists who would join them in the pursuit of science to develop lifesaving medicines.
Now, MBAE is thrilled to have Bristol Myers Squibb at our side as we begin a new era of advocacy for STEM education. From building a more diverse and inclusive talent pipeline of students to take on the life sciences jobs of the future, to rapidly expanding digital equity and access to foundational computer sciences courses in Massachusetts schools, MBAE and Bristol Myers Squibb share a set of priorities that will keep our economy growing and give many more students a pathway to a great life and a great career.
“Together we can continue to make a difference in biotechnology education here in Massachusetts,” said Dr. Lees. “We are looking forward to a long and productive partnership.”
